AI for construction and trades: estimates from photos

If you run a contracting or trades business, the most expensive bottleneck is probably the estimate. AI just made it 10x faster.

Contractors live and die on estimates. Customers call, you go look at the job, you go back to the office, you spend an evening building the estimate, you email it, you wait. Three days later they've signed with someone faster, or the job has gotten cold, or you've forgotten to follow up.

The single highest-leverage AI move for contractors and trades is photo-driven estimate drafting. The job-site visit is now a photo capture and a couple of voice notes — which in 2026 is enough to draft a credible first-pass estimate. The AI uses your historical pricing, your typical labor allocations, your current materials costs, and your warranty terms.

We do not pretend the AI is producing the final estimate. The contractor reviews and corrects, often substantially. But the difference between starting from a blank page at 9pm and starting from a 90%-correct draft at 4pm is dramatic. Estimates that took three days now take three hours. Estimates that took three hours now take fifteen minutes. Close rates go up because customers get answers while they're still excited.

Adjacent wins for trades: project status updates to customers without anyone manually composing them, change-order tracking against your master estimate, lien-release coordination, and warranty-call routing. None of these are glamorous individually. Together they remove most of the office hours from a contracting business and let the owner spend their evenings doing something other than catching up on paperwork.

We tend to deploy this in one or two stages — estimate-drafting first, then customer-communication automation second. We integrate with the systems contractors actually use (JobTread, Buildertrend, JobNimbus, ServiceTitan), so your team isn't asked to switch tools.
